My 10 Favorite TV Shows

Everybody loves lists, so why not make one that is nigh impossible for any two people to share the same? TV is wonderful because nobody can get to everything. In film you've at least heard of the ones you haven't seen, but in television there are so many great content being produced that it's insane how many stunning shows some people have seen while others have never heard of. So, this is a list of my favorite TV shows that I go back to again and again and cannot get enough of.

10. Terriers

This one season wonder is a magnificent piece of television that has sadly been scraped off the plate. No DVD, hardly streaming, and getting increasingly difficult to find. It's another detective show, but the way the story is structured and how co-leads react to the realization that their tiny case is being blown way open is nigh perfect. If you're lucky to find it dive in, because it's a great season debut.

 9. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

How could I not like this? This show is fantastic in balancing the drama, heart, and comedy. Over the course of six season, and a cancellation brought back from the dead continuation, it has formed some incredible stories surrounding the goofballs of the 99th precinct. Each season is better than the last and this show will both make you bust a gut while crying your eyes out. Can't wait to see where this show takes me next.

  8. Breaking Bad

Stereotypical, I know, but there's a reason it's on so many lists. The writing is so fantastic that it puts many shows, including those on the premium networks, to shame. Bryan Cranston blew away all expectations and Vince Gilligan is a hurricane of a storyteller, taking to the next level on Better Call Saul. Even on the 5th, 6th, 10th viewing of this show it feels like you're experiencing it for the first time, because it sucks you into the eye of the Gilligan hurricane.

 7. Chuck

Chuck

I. Love.Chuck.

Rented it from Blockbuster on a whim, looking for something new to watch. Was so enraptured by it that I went back the next day to get the next discs. It's a spy show, but so much more. It loves the characters and gives them all interesting personalities while pushing every emotional button you have every episode. Fun, sad, heart warming, horrifying, sexy, it's got it all and changes things up with every season. Not only that but the fan base is so passionate it saved the show two times from cancellation.

 6. Monk

I revisit this show so much. The writing continues to impress me as it takes a serious story and adds comedy to a tragic character's life without insulting him. It takes disabilities and mental health seriously, and more important it creates an impressive friendship with all the characters. The amount of love and respect the characters have towards each other is tear jerking at times and to see Adrian Monk grow from Pilot to finale is an amazing journey.

 5. Broadchurch

Season 1 is god-like. The atmosphere and writing are all pitch perfect and by all accounts it's an absolutely perfect season. You can't stop watching it. Once an episode ends you're like "Fuck sleep!" Truly gripping, but it also talks about community and how mob mentality can strike out with even the smallest of information whether it's true or not. This little community is so ordinary that when the extraordinary occurs it fractures society.

 4. Psych

Similar to Monk, I go back to Psych many times. As a movie lover this show is top notch. Every episode is practically a love letter to some part of cinema. Whether it's Hitchcock, Kubrick, werewolves, musicals, or even aliens, it covers it all. With the two leads being, essentially, children in adult bodies their slow maturing arc is so satisfying. Every episode is a good time, and it may take a bit to fully get into this show, but once you're hooked you're hooked for life. Oh, and pineapples.

 3. Galavant

A half hour musical comedy. I don't even know where to begin, because this show is incredibly amazing. Season 1 is fun, but Season 2, a season they didn't expect to get, takes it up a notch as they flip the good guys and bad guys and add extra layers to them you wouldn't expect out of a musical series. While they did set up a third season, and we'll sadly never get it, it does end on a perfect note and is the type of comedy where you'll love it, leave it, and come back to love it again.

 2. Doctor Who

It actually took a long time for me to get into this show. My friends all loved it (the 2005 revival) but I never took that chance. When I did I was very unimpressed. It took three full seasons for me to get interested in it, but after that I was hooked. With each season I was understanding more and more of it started to appreciate all aspects of Doctor Who, the good, the bad, and yes even the ugly. I even started watching the classic episodes and collecting them too. As a show that spans over 50 years it's an amazing piece of entertainment, time cracks and all.

 1. Black Sails

SHC-Black-Sails-S3

I genuinely do not think there is a bad episode in this show. It starts off great and only rises from there. Like Vince Gilligan, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine run a tight ship. Every episode, especially in Season 2 and 4, could have enough material to teach a script writing class. And to think that they got some amazing actors to fill these iconic shoes like Long John Silver and Captain Flint is anything but miraculous. This show has some of the best writing around and has some of the best badass moments of television...EVER.

Well that's my list, what's your favorite TV shows ever?
