The Flash S5 E4 Recap

"I'll make you a banana."
The Flash has really won me back with their new direction this season. Last Episode made me lose faith, but this one took some serious steps forward for this speedster. Instead of falling back on their usual shtick of bickering Wells/Cisco, no more Flash being bested because of plot, every problem I had last episode was addressed here and done to thrilling effect.
"NewsFlash" begins with a very cute morning family reunion. With Nora crashing on her parent's couch, Iris thought it would be a good idea to surprise everyone with breakfast pancakes. What starts as an innocent and kind idea quickly turns into a meltdown where Iris serves...less than adequate food. The Flash family sits down to share this breakfast, which includes a very cute scene where Barry is trying to cover and make Iris feel good about her cooking, and Nora leaving before eating a thing.
My biggest problem last episode was that "Team Flash" had no lives outside of superhero-ing. This episode not only changes that by taking it slow, but gives us a wonderful scene where Barry is participating in a work softball game, and everyone is there to cheer him on. Playful antics ensue and Iris, Caitlin, Cecile, and Nora find out how bad Barry is at sports compared to being the Flash. The plot kicks in when a mind controlled bomber is stopped by a mind controlled XS. Nora wakes up with no memory of the incident, and the same with the bomber.
The episode then gets even more delightful when Sherloque and Ralph team up to find more clues on Cicada. Ralph is showing his sexy side this episode by oozing confidence and standing up to Sherloque's surefire arrogance. Seriously, not only are their interactions perfect, but Ralph is pulling his weight so much this episode it's amazing. Later on, Iris and Nora come to a mixed-conclusion that a blogger Iris used to know is trying to achieve fame by controlling the stories she's running...no pun intended.
After some tit for tat scenarios with Iris's rogue blogger, XS and Flash are led into a trap and battle to the "death," that is until Iris comes to save the day. With the rogue blogger in custody team Flash come together to pull information to find out that the satellite that Nora interfered with last season not only was responsible for creating Cicada, but is responsible for creating Meta-tech. Now the dangers of regular people acquiring these weapons looms over the season.
Overall, this episode was amazing. Stellar compared to what we've been getting and I'm starting to really invest into this season. Nora and Iris had an emotional moment where Nora reveals what Iris had done to her to lose her trust, we had a great family episode where these character finally got some down time, and the sleuthing to find Cicada is going along quite nicely. No one felt wasted this episode, and practically all my problems with The Flash up to this point have dissipated. Hopefully this season can keep up this quality.
